Fifteen minutes taxi ride outside of the city Ica lies a tiny little desert oasis called Huacachina. Previously a spot for locals to bathe in the water pool, but now too polluted and has become a tourist spot due to easy access for sand buggying and boarding. A delayed night bus from Ayacucho got me into Ica around 6:30am. An earthquake in the early hours had hit the city of Ica, luckily not much damage was caused. The bus was stopped up in the mountains around 2am due to the road being blocked by fallen rocks.
The locals acted like nothing had happened and was all part of daily life!
The quite little village was calm and only interrupted by the sound of sand buggies pounding up the sand dunes for sunset.
