T-Shirt Design

Below is my first finished t-shirt design. It is not perfect and there is definitely room for improvement, but I am generally very happy with it. Ideas are based on geometry, blocks of colors and art-deco design. Initial ideas began when I was bored of continually seeing amazing graphic t-shirts made through simple printing techniques. It is not often that I come across different formats of implementing designs onto t-shirts. As a result I brought a sewing machine and have had a few 1-2-1 lessons on the basics of sewing and have then just experimented from there. I have many more ideas and will be making them soon.

The triangle in the middle with the map print on it, is a Timeless Treasure Fabric print, I found it in a fabric store and was instantly attracted to it.

Recently discovered Clemens Behr and am totally infatuated with his work, especially his installations. Multidisciplinary design, based on geometric forms taking over the space in 2D and 3D forms.

Combining architecture, textile and fashion design in producing origami hats from 'House Of Architects Millinery....little seems to be known about the designers, but I love these designs and hopefully there will be lots of exciting products in the future from them.

"Geometry existed before the creation" - Plato

I recently discovered these costume style fashion pieces by Amila Hrustic who graduated from Product Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo.

The geometric forms and sci-fi design push the boundaries of fashion and accessories. The geometric forms relate to natural forms in micro scales that form complex organisms and structures. When these are magnified the forms and orientations of each individual structure along with the surface patterns form unusual and exciting design pieces beyond the norm.

Amila Hrustic explains 'The title of this diploma project is "Plato's Collection" and the main inspiration for the entire collection is located in Platonic solids. The collection consists of five unique dresses handcrafted from a combination of textiles and paper.'

Insect Hotel > Arup Associates

I came across this artifact the other day and liked the idea very much.

Arup won the competition called 'Beyond the Hive' where the brief called for a sustainable and creative insect habitat for the city of london parks.

The bio-mimetic design is constructed out of 25 layers of 20 mm-thick birch plywood. The irregular voids originate from the Voronoi pattern, an organic system of irregular shapes often found in nature. Each compartment/void is compacted with different forms of dead-fall to cater for different species of insects. Hopefully we will see the scheme implemented around natural habitation areas of London very soon and that the idea works to full effect!
